After so many travels and after 15 years, some Chagall’s works are back again in Rome.
The “Dream Theatre” exhibition doesn’t intend to show the complete work of this artist, but it gives the opportunity to know one of the facets of Chagall’s art: his interest for the theatre. The paintings exhibited, as well as the graphical works, the drawings and the engravings, come from Chagall’s stage designings for the Jewish State Theatre of Moscow. Chagall realised those works between 1914 and 1922 when he came to Russia after the French and the German stays.
The works showed in Rome are kept in Moscow in the Tret’jakov State Gallery.
The works are monumental, colossal, expansive, real auteur stage designings which are besides ably illuminated.
The cubist and expressionist influences played a great role in Chagall’s artistic production as well as the influence of the jewish culture.
In conclusion, it is worth to pay attention to the initiative “At the theatre with Chagall” which directly involves the students of the middle schools of Rome.
