Si inaugura il 28/05/2015 alle 18:30 negli spazi di Progetto Arte ELM una mostra di Giuseppe

Spagnulo che raccoglie – come sottolinea il titolo – lavori inediti e lavori assolutamente nuovi.

Tra i lavori inediti si annoverano alcune sculture assimilabili alla grande “Ruota dei Venti” del 2012,

una delle forme più caratteristiche dell’ultima produzione dell’artista, altre, come “Quelli che

restano”, 2015, chiara allusione al trittico di Boccioni (di cui Spagnulo ha realizzato in terracotta

anche “Quelli che vanno”, esposta a Verona nel dicembre 2014) è un insieme di lastre spesse

tenute insieme da legacci in ferro, estrema propaggine di una produzione meno conosciuta

dell’artista, mentre altre ancora, tra cui un formidabile “Capitello” in acciaio fuso pieno, sono non

solo inedite, ma anche nuove, e sembrano aprire un altro capitolo nella storia complessa e

coerente della scultura di Spagnulo.

L’elemento-base è, visibilmente, il rapporto con la materia, e in questo caso col ferro (l’altra,

usata contemporaneamente, è la terra cotta, ma in questa mostra si è scelta la via più impegnativa

di esporre solo opere in metallo): rapporto che l’artista intende mantenere al livello più

“originario” possibile, che è quello dell’incontro/scontro, della forza e della resistenza, della

violenza che maschera l’amore. Così, da questi “colpi” terribili sulla materia emergono embrioni di

forme che non sono altro che la struttura della scultura, quelle forme da cui nascono tutte le altre,

e che si riducono a poche, quando sono essenziali, in attesa di essere differenziate dalla mano

dell’artista. Spagnulo invece si ferma a quella primaria essenzialità, che tuttavia è tutt’altro che

indifferenziata: è il minimalismo della materia, prima ancora che della mente.

Un catalogo illustrato con testo critico di Marco Meneguzzo in italiano e in inglese accompagna la

mostra.




On 28/05/2015at 6:30 pm, there will be inaugurated in the rooms of Progetto Arte Elm a

show by Giuseppe Spagnulo which, as indicated by the title, will be of previously unseen

and absolutely new works.

Among the works seen for the first time are various sculptures related to the large "Ruota

dei Venti", 2012, one of the most characteristic forms of the artist's latest production.

Another such work is "Quelli che restano", 2015, an obvious allusion to Boccioni's triptych

(another of these works is the terracotta "Quelli che vanno", exhibited in Verona in

December 2014): this is a group of thick slabs held together by iron ties, an extreme

offshoot of the artist's less-known production. Yet other works, among which a tremendous

"Capitello" in cast steel, are also completely new and seem to open a further chapter in the

complex and coherent history of Spagnulo's sculpture.

The basic element is visibly that of the artist's relationship with his materials, in this case

iron (another, used contemporaneously, is terracotta, but this show has made the tougher

choice of exhibiting only metal works): a relationship that the artist intends to maintain at

the most "original" possible level, that of meetings/collisions, of force and resistance, and

of the violence that masks love. And so from these terrible "blows" on the material there

emerge the embryos of forms that are nothing other than sculpture's structure, those forms

from which all the others grow, and that are usually reduced to just a few minimal ones

waiting to be differentiated by the artist's hand. Spagnulo, instead, stops at that basic

minimal moment which, however, is anything but undifferentiated: this is the minimalism of

the material rather than that of the mind.

Meneguzzo in English and Italian.
