photo basel, Switzerland’s first and only art fair dedicated t o the
display and promotion o f photography , returns virtually
t o the screens with its sixth edition. The virtual fair runs from
June 17th – 21st, 2020.
From its inaugural edition in 2015, photo basel has cemented its profile
as the most prominent photography fair in the German-speaking region.
Bringing together galleries from around the world, the fair fosters a
dialogue between members of the photographic and broader art world
communities, attracting international media, visual art experts and
collectors at a key moment in the annual art world calendar.
We are pleased to welcome Audrey Hoareau as curator of photo basel for
2020. A photography specialist, Hoareau began her career working in the
Collections department of the musée Nicéphore Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône
from 2003 to 2016. She also contributed to the launch of the Lianzhou Museum
of Photography in China. Hoareau has co-curated significant exhibitions
such as Dancing in the Street. Peter Knapp et la Mode. 1960-1970 at Cité
de la Mode et du Design, Paris (2018) and "Isabel Muñoz. La Antropología
de los Sentimientos" at Tabacalera, Madrid (2018).
Sven Eisenhut, Founding Director of photo basel said:
It’s with pleasure that we present the very first virtual edition of photo
basel this June (when our physical fair would have taken place), welcoming
many galleries from our roster. Although we are fully aware that no virtual
fair can replace a physical one, we merely look at it as an opportunity and
added value to our physical one.
