Bonno van Doorn – Tourist Cave

C&H gallery is proud to present TOURIST CAVE by Bonno van Doorn. The exhibition will present new works by the artist.
The works come from constant attempts to make images that escape the generally applicable classification. They are intentional and accidental results that resist the world of obvious logic and efficiency. Bonno combines these results (sculptures and paintings) in installations, becoming a new and temporary order of things. A world in which it is no longer about escaping but about discovering and finding.

In a world full of subjective knowledge, metaphors and symbols, we are constantly engaged in interpretation and communication. Through cultural agreements we try to define meaning and concretize it in order to use it. Nonetheless, we always seem to misunderstand each other. We need a lot of words to create clarity, but get far away from the core through talking. Bonno’s work points to the possibility of a free space somewhere in between things, a space that cuts loose from our compulsive tendency to control the world around us and to record it in agreements and conclusions. A free space that does not arise from thinking followed by doing, but from acting and reacting, and then seeing.

The images are specific and abstract, familiar and strange. Together they form very personal collections of form, color and visual associations. They are proposals for the taxonomy of the temporary interchangeable order. Everything you see is a fragment, wavering, always referring to itself or something else. In this environment where nothing speaks for itself, everything speaks for each other. In a language where words fail.

Bonno van Doorn (1977, NL) lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. His work has been in a number of exhibitions, in both The Netherlands and abroad. OBVIOUSLY in 1646 (Den Haag), The Painted Bird in Marres (Maastricht) and BRIGHT in Cultuurcentrum Mechelen (Belgium) to name a few.
