Gagosian Gallery è lieta di annunciare “The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011”, una mostra di Damien Hirst.

La mostra verrà presentata simultaneamente in tutte e undici le gallerie Gagosian nel mondo nelle sedi di New York, Londra, Parigi, Los Angeles, Roma, Atene, Ginevra, Hong Kong, e includerà prestiti provenienti da istituzioni pubbliche e private così come opere dalla collezione dell’artista. Per la prima volta Gagosian dedica tutte le sue locations all’opera di un unico artista con un’unica data inaugurale, il 12 gennaio 2012. Presso la Gagosian Gallery di Roma la mostra sarà vistabile fino al 10 marzo.

Gli spot paintings sono tra le opere più iconiche dell’arte contemporanea, un simbolo riconosciuto universalmente, che oltrepassa i confini della cultura e del linguaggio. La mostra presenterà il “mondo degli spots” di Damien Hirst in un contesto del tutto globale, dal primo spot painting realizzato nel 1986, alle monumentali tele dove nessun colore viene mai ripetuto, fino ai più recenti lavori, alcuni dei quali presentano macchie di colore di solo un millimetro di diametro.
In occasione della mostra sarà pubblicato The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011, un catalogo interamente illustrato, che rappresenterà un importante e definitivo riferimento per tutti gli spot painting realizzati da Hirst dal 1986 fino ad oggi.

“Damien Hirst: The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011” precede la prima importante retrospettiva sull’opera di Hirst, che inaugurerà presso la Tate Modern di Londra in aprile 2012.

Damien Hirst è nato a Bristol, Inghilterra nel 1965. Tra le importanti mostre personali dell’artista si annoverano "The Agony and the Ecstasy", Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, Napoli (2004); "A Selection of Works by Damien Hirst from Various Collections", Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2005); Astrup Fearnley Museet for Moderne Kunst, Oslo (2005); "For the Love of God", Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (2008); "No Love Lost", The Wallace Collection, Londra (2009); "Requiem", Pinchuk Art Center, Kiev (2009); e “Cornucopia” the Oceanographic Museum di Monaco (2010). Damien Hirst ha ricevuto il prestigioso premio Turner Prize in 1995. Le sue opere sono presenti in importanti collezioni pubbliche o private in tutto in mondo.

Gagosian Gallery is pleased to present “The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011” by Damien Hirst.

The exhibition has been conceived to take place simultaneously across each of Gagosian Gallery’s eleven locations in New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Rome, Athens, Geneva, and Hong Kong. It will include loans from public institutions and private collections as well as from the artist. This is the first time Gagosian Gallery has dedicated all locations at once to a body of work by one artist and the exhibition will open in every city on the same date, January 12th. The exhibition at Gagosian Gallery Rome will be on show through March 10th.

Hirst’s spot paintings are among the most distinctive in contemporary art, a symbol that is recognized universally, cutting across boundaries of culture and language. Beginning with the first spot painting created in 1986, to monumental canvases where no single color is ever repeated, to the most recent works, some of which comprise spots of just 1 millimeter in diameter, this exhibition will present Hirst’s “world of spots” in a truly global context.

The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011, a fully illustrated, complete and definitive reference to all spot paintings made by Hirst from 1986 to the present will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.

“Damien Hirst: The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011” precedes the first major museum retrospective of Hirst’s work, which opens at Tate Modern in London in April, 2012.

Damien Hirst was born in 1965 in Bristol, England.
