James Philip Thompson è un giovane artista di Birmingham, Regno Unito. Orafo di formazione, pittore autodidatta, si è fatto conoscere grazie a originali esperienze di arte concettuale e installativa.
A Roma, dove vive da due anni per scelta e vocazione, ha intrapreso la strada della pittura, maturando una visione artistica del tutto personale. Le tele esposte nella mostra “Correction Attempts – peccato colpa indulgenza” sono frutto di oltre un anno di instancabili studi sul rapporto tra arte, religione e società, avviati in risposta all’esigenza, profondamente sentita, di comprendere la natura più autentica delle cose.
Partendo dal dato autobiografico, l’artista realizza opere dalla complessa struttura simbolica, in cui i grafici convivono con le immagini, e il colore, grondante e polimaterico, svela le contraddizioni di una creatività pressoché incontenibile.
La Galleria L’Opera, che nelle sue precedenti iniziative ha già dato voce a contenuti ritenuti controversi, si rivela particolarmente adeguata a ospitare questa mostra: Thompson, attraverso un corpus di opere concepite come parti di uno stesso discorso, indaga le connessioni tra la violenza del razzismo, il senso di colpa instillato da un’educazione opprimente, e la natura duplice dell’essere umano, spietato e sociale.

James Philip Thompson is a young artist from Birmingham, United Kingdom. Self-taught painter trained as a goldsmith, at first he was interested in conceptual art and installation works.
In Rome, where he moved two years ago, he embarked on the road of painting, developing a highly personal artistic vision. The paintings on display in the exhibition “Correction Attempts – sin guilt indulgence” are the result of over a year of tireless studies on the relationship between art, religion and society, initiated in response to a deeply felt need to understand the real nature of things. Starting from autobiographical material, the artist creates works characterized by a complex symbolic structure, in which the graphs live with the images, and the dripping, multi-material paint reveals the contradictions of an almost irrepressible creativity.
The Galleria L’Opera, which in its previous initiatives has already voiced controversial contents, is particularly suited to host this exhibition: Thompson, through a body of works conceived as parts of a same idea, explores the connections between the violence of racism, guilt instilled by stifling education and the dual nature of humanity, social and ruthless.
