Comunicato stampa
Segnala l'evento
Whitechapel Gallery. Londra, UK. - Stiftung Ludwig, Wien, Austria. (2008) "Minerva Cuevas". Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Holland. - "The Art of Participation: 1950 to Now". San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, USA. (2007) "La venganza del elefante". kurimanzutto, Mexico City. - "Phenomena". Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland. - "On Society". MC Kunst, Los Angeles, USA. - Bienal de Mercosur. Porto Alegre, Brazil. - "Landings". Kunsthalle Basel. Switzerland - Biennale de Lyon, Francia (2006) 27th Bienal De São Paulo Brazil. PRESS RELASE: Saturday October 16 at 6:00 pm dispari&dispari project opens the exhibition season 2010/11 with an exhibition of Minerva Cuevas. (México, 1975). Disidencia is the first solo exhibition in Italy of the emblematic Mexican artist who since the beginning of her career has been distinguished in the international art scene through a socio-political conceptual work, for her site specific social research and the use of guerrilla communication/action/tactics. The exhibition takes its name from a video in which the artist registers the contemporary signs of dissidence in Mexico City. For more information look at www.dispariedispari.org
* DISIDENCIA: For several years to now Minerva Cuevas has been mapping opposition in Mexico City, by recording both its more evident and its inconspicuous signs as part of a video archive. From this unique footage she developed Dissidence v 2.0 (2010). A stream of strong and poetic images take us on a trip around permanent and transient scenarios of resistance in Mexico City metropolitan area. Through places and time and along with a wealth of demonstrations and direct political references we are granted access to the subtle and many times invisible or clandestine ways of how resistance can manifest. One of the highlights of this portrait of the city's rebelious character are the rural elements that remind us of the city's origins and that constitute a form of resistance by themselves, managing to defeat the urban definition of a city. Dissidence v 2.0 resembles a personal cartography where Cuevas puts in the map an ethic of resistance. Dissidence's visual archive is accompanied by 2 musical compositions by mexican composer Pablo Salazar.
