Roberto Mosi – Myth in Florence

Myth in Florence
A special photografic tour
Negli scatti fotografici, in bianco e nero,

How can you find myth in a renowned city like Florence? Roberto Mosi - poet and photographer -
offers a special journey, starting from special works such as naturally upright and solemn statues.
For each statue, the author tries to capture a “magical” detail which best represents the attitude
of this “mythical character” towards the world, as well as its look upon the surrounding landscape.
And every time, he aims at conquering the aura surrounding a work and its context, something
which makes it unique hic et nunc. In the words of Walter Benjamin, Mosi wants to reflect on how
photography helps us release the energy wrapped inside a myth, giving it shape and meaning.
Mosi's look captures the feelings of each work as seen within the unique context of this city. The
black and white shots seek the dialogue between the subject and the surrounding space through a
contemplative vision and through a slow movement that finally seizes it and puts it in the limelight.
The selected places are the riverside walkways and the statues of the Ponte Santa Trinita, the
statues inside the Boboli Garden, the characters of the legendary fashion world, the mannequins
of the shop windows in Via Tornabuoni. For Mosi, every image taken is like an endless narration
around the myth, which also involves the poetry point of view. To this extent, the poetry collection
“Luoghi del mito” (Places of Myth) - curated by the same Mosi and published by LietoColle in 2010
– tells about “The Daughters of the River” who cherish the treasures of Florence inside the Arno
waters, inspired by "Das Rheingold" by Richard Wagner.
I run towards the city
while the last rays of the sun
crown the dome in red.
Wavy circles at the centre -
the daughters of the river live in these waters
as guardians of our treasures.
