La crisi di Hirst era nell’aria. Intervistato dall’Observer pochi giorni prima dell’asta, Sergey Skaterschikov, a capo della Skate’s Art Market Research, ha detto:
“This [We’ve got Style (the Vessel Collection blue/green)] will be a major fiasco if it’s unsold. We predict that the lot will get sold and closer to the higher end of the range (above $1 million)—otherwise Hirst market liquidity will dry up completely.”
E non più tardi di inizio mese l’Economist è uscito con questo articolo http://www.economist.com/node/16990811?story_id=16990811 in cui si cita, tra le altre cose, come Sotheby “is avoiding Mr Hirst’s work because it can’t meet its consignors’ price expectations” e che ” the average auction price for a Hirst work in 2008 was $831,000. So far in 2010 it is down to $136,000, a sum that does not even take into account the many lots that failed to find buyers. ”
