Nemmeno un anno fa, la casa editrice Chronicle Chroma pubblicava il suo libro, irrimediabilmente ironico fin dal titolo: Get Your Shit Together, recitava la copertina. Il contenuto, altrettanto non ordinario: una sfilza di figure a colori semplici, immediate, a un primo sguardo sembrano disegni di un bambino. Poi subito quello humor dissacrante che le accompagna, che fa a pugni con una visione fanciullesca del mondo – non c’è nulla di incantato in quelle scenette a tinte accese quotidiane. L’artista britannico David Shrigley esprime disagi, inquietudini universali, li traduce in immagini essenziali, in scritte accattivanti, sparpagliate intorno alle sue figure. «Devo aver fatto più di mille disegni dall’inizio della pandemia», commentava all’uscita del suo libro, «ho un bisogno un po’ compulsivo di elencare e tracciare tutto». Ogni giorno, i suoi gatti, le sue giraffe rosse, le sue orche speranzose rimbalzano tra social network di addetti ai lavori e profani, a metà tra opere d’arte, meme ricercati, forse tutto insieme. Ed ecco la notizia: Phillips mette all’asta alcune delle opere più celebri in una vendita online fino al 14 giugno, sotto forma di serigrafie. Qualche esempio? Una bottiglia in bilico sul bordo del tavolo (la scritta d’accompagnamento: «Are you confortable with this?», a prova di brivido). Stima: £ 5000-7000. La famosa oca rosa con le ali dispiegate: «Stop panicking, everything will be fine», sembra urlare (stima: £ 30000-5000). E ancora la foca verde che odia tutti gli esseri umani (stima: £ 1500-2000), l’ostrica motivatrice («You are special», stima: £ 2000-3000), l’invito a estrarre il «succo» da ogni situazione, con un’arancia come soggetto principale (stima: £ 1500-2000).
