From august 30nd 2000 Open 2000 Lido di Venezia, sedi varie
Wednesday 30th August 2000 at 10.30 am in the main Conference Hall of The Hotel Westin Excelsior at Venice Lido there will be the Press Conference and presentation of the 3rd edition of the International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations OPEN2OOO, with the presence of the participating artists and curators
The exhibition is conceived by Paolo De Grandis and organised by Arte Communications in co-operation with Venice City Council, Venice Lido District Council and Veneto Region. OPEN 2000 will take place under the highest auspices of the President of the Republic of Italy, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Goods and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the participating countries.
OPEN 2000 will be held simultaneously with the 57th Venice Cinema Festival and the 7th Architecture Biennial – opened last June. Significant installations and sculptures will be exhibited until 30th October along the Lungomare Marconi, at the Piazzale S. Maria Elisabetta, Piazzale Ravà and in the Excelsior Hotel, the Park of Hotel Des Bains and the Hungaria Palace Hotel.
This year the subject will not only be about the interaction between art and the language of cinema, but also the architectonic space. Since the first edition in 1998, OPEN has been one of the first exhibitions that have started a dialogue with the entire world, expanding the boundaries of the art system beyond Europe and the USA. Such event has made the different cultures of our planet get closer, in the consciousness that stronger countries will be competing with emerging ones. From this comparison strong renewing energies can be born, together with visions of the world that were never explored before. All these events bring a considerable contribute to the art system, because the new worlds – rich in subjects about the memory of their own cultures – can bring a number of new elements to the creative languages of the already confirmed nations.
The title of the exhibition, “OPEN”, has exactly this aim: open the boundaries of art and make the dialogue and the interaction between far away countries more dynamic. This year exhibition will show the works of 34 artists coming from 32 different countries. The choice was promoted by a committee of critics operating in different national contexts and led and co-ordinated by the French critic Pierre Restany. Also Venice will be represented this year.
We would like to underline the participation of some world-wide famous artists like Emilio Vedova for Italy, Günter Uecker for Germany, Jean-Pierre Raynaud for France, José de Guimarães for Portugal and Reinhoud D’Haese for Belgium. The presence of a number of journalists and multimedia operators, attracted by the Cinema Festival, will definitely confirm the image and the success of OPEN 2000 that, again this year, will be reported among the most relevant appointments of the Venice summer.
OPEN 2000 catalogue, edited by Arte Communications and the exhibition brochures will be distributed at the INFOPEN, Lungomare Marconi n°11, Venice Lido, Phone 0335-6176419
